For those who want more than to sit and watch the wildlife, there are many activities within close reach.

Golf

The holiday lodge is situated directly adjacent to Colvend Golf Club. This picturesque course offers 18 challenging holes with superb views over the Galloway hills and the Solway Firth.

The course is 5220 yards off the medal tees with an sss of 67. The clubhouse is modern with full catering and bar facilities, and visitors are especially welcome.

Once you have paid your green fee you become a temporary member for the day.

Horse Riding

Barend riding school ¾ mile – A BHS approved riding school offering riding lessons, hacks and treks through the forest. Open 7 days a week, year round.

Watersports

Loch Ken Marina 20 minutes drive – A Water ski and water-sports centre for all ages and abilities. All equipment provided. Open 7 days a week, April to October.

Galloway Sailing Centre 20 minutes drive – Water-sports tuition and hire. Other activities include quad bikes, archery, mountain bike trails and abseiling

Mountain Biking

Ride the 7stanes, Scotlands biking heaven. World class mountain biking, tough trails and family loops for all abilities through the forests of Are, Dalbeattie, Kirroughtree and Glentrool. Dalbeattie forest 5 minutes drive away.

Fishing

Two salmon rivers and dozens of well stocked lochs within easy reach of Cumstoun Lodge. Coarse fishing and sea fishing also available locally.

Walking

Dumfries & Galloway is the starting point for the Southern upland way, which stretches 212 miles from coast to coast. Short sections or circular trails can be joined at local points.

Coastal trails, hill and forestry walks are all within easy reach.

Galloway Forest Park

The largest forest park in Britain covering 300 square miles of landscape. Forest, woodland, moorland and lochs all within easy reach by car, on foot, cycling or on horseback. Three forest visitor centres to help plan your route.
